How 40 Years of Movement, Mindset, and Miracles Shaped Get Flexy’s Foundational Pillars

For more than 40 years, I’ve lived and breathed fitness, movement, and the power of community. From my early days teaching aerobics and strength training to becoming certified in yoga, Pilates, TRX, Kettlebell, and Nutrition, one truth has always guided me — transformation goes far beyond a workout. It’s about how you move through life.

But life has a way of testing what we teach.

Nearly 20 years ago, I survived a life-threatening cerebral aneurysm and emergency brain surgery — an experience that changed everything. In an instant, all the fitness, strength, and control I had built over decades were stripped away. I went from being at my physical peak to having to relearn how to move, eat and trust my body again.

That season of recovery humbled me, stretched me, and ultimately refined the way I view wellness. It reminded me that fitness isn’t just about the body — it’s about the mind, the spirit, and the grace we give ourselves in the process. The healing journey became the blueprint for what I now call The Flexible Five Pillars©️ — the heart of everything we do at Get Flexy Fitness Studio.


The Five Pillars That Change Everything

Each pillar was shaped by decades of teaching, personal recovery, and the wisdom that comes from getting back up — again and again.

Strength
Strength is more than muscle — it’s resilience. It’s the courage to begin again when life knocks you down, and the belief that healing is possible.

Flexibility
Flexibility teaches surrender. It’s not about touching your toes; it’s about releasing control, trusting the process, and finding freedom in patience.

Yoga/Pilates
Yoga bridges effort and ease. It became my daily anchor during recovery — reconnecting my body and mind when words and movement felt foreign.

Mindset
Mindset is everything. It shapes how we rise after a fall and how we see ourselves in the mirror of struggle. I learned that progress begins with perspective.

Nutrition
Nutrition is nourishment — not just for the body, but for healing. During recovery, I experienced how food fuels cellular repair, energy, and emotional balance.
